Overview

Canon has provided a sound effort over the last couple of years dominating the standard for desktop ink jets. Initially with the Pixma iP4000 and followed by the Pixma iP4200.  When we starting the evaluation the iP4200 was the reigning champion and we wondered how the new iP4300 model would improve on it.

To our appreciation it does! The iP4300 offers a better smidge quality and is faster and cheaper than the iP4200.

Well, it does. A lot. The iP4300 is faster, and cheaper, and it even offers a smidge better quality than the iP4200 does. And it retains welcome touches such as two paper trays, the ability to duplex automatically, and a PictBridge  connector for direct printing from cameras. Not to keep you in suspense, it replaces the iP4200 not just in Canon's line, but as our Editors' Choice as well.

Special mention must go to the paper trays as each tray can hold 150 sheets of plain paper which is great capacity for a personal printer or a home office. The advantage of the iP4300 two paper tray system as a home printer, you can load photo paper in one tray and plain paper in the other giving the user the ability to alternate photos and standard printing without the hassle of having to load and unload paper each time. Either way a double thumbs up for the convenience of the second tray!

As to be expected the setup is is standard for a Canon ink jet printer.

Something worth an unusual not is the ink system, having 5 ink cartridges to snap in.  The iP4300 uses, 2 versions of black - a pigment based black for better-looking text and a dye based black for a better looking photos also magenta, yellow & cyan.

All standard business font's tested with very readable basically the iP4300 can handle any text you can throw at it.
All photos all showed true photo quality, with no important flaws - High enough quality to hang the photo on the wall.
Also important to mention, Canon claims lifetimes of:
100 years for photos kept in an album
30 years for photos framed behind glass
10 years for photos exposed to the air

For the practical advantage, you can be assured with handling the photos with concerning yourself about ruining them with moist hands.

Summary

To sum up the iP4300's ticks all the boxes whether you're looking for features, output quality and did I mention the speed is OUTSTANDING the Canon Pixma iP4300 Photo Inkjet Printer is head and shoulders above the the pack
