Laser & ink cartridges printers are the most awkward part of a computer system.
Paper is draped everywhere. Good computer furniture hides
this mess. Yet, the paper should be easy to get to in case
it jams. Power cords and data cables should be neatly tucked
out of the way. The printer should be in good light in order
to see what is happening. Some people may need to place
the printer at standing level if they have back problems.

Probably the biggest mistake made is to put the printer
in a closet or cup-board low to the floor, turn everything
on with a single power-on switch, and keep the door shut
so that nobody can see the printer. Dot-matrix printers
count on the weight of hanging paper to feed paper properly
in the input path. Bending over is not good for your back.
Shutting the door while the printer is on essentially creates
an oven the heat generated is trapped. This heat can destroy
the printer's electronics.
The best printer furniture places the printer at about
desk level. Paper is fed from the floor and piles up on
the floor. The weight of hanging paper helps the printer
to feed paper properly. A stand or shelf with a slot cut
in the back for the paper and power cables is ideal.
