Comparing Paper and Ink Costs
Printer Comparing Paper and Inkjet cartridge & Toner Costs
Because the inkjet cartridges printer is still a specialty
item, it is important to consider the cost of the consumables
ink and special paper stock. Usually, you must buy ink from
the manufacturer, and there is no price competition.
The ink cartridges last for about 500 pages, compared to
1,000 pages for most dot-matrix ribbons. And inkjet cartridges
cost twice as much. Although most inkjet cartridges do not
require special paper, many are sensitive to different paper
types. The best printouts from inkjet cartridges printers
are still obtained on special paper.
Inkjets printers (printer cartridges) have higher operating
costs even higher than that of laser printers even when
limiting analysis to ink and toner. The overall life-cycle
costs of an inkjet printer can approach that of a laser,
even if the capital investment in the laser is twice as
much.
