When purchasing a printer (be that ink cartridges printer
or laser printers), you should have a clear idea of the
types of documents to be printed and the environment of
the printer. For example, you can print banners and wide
spreadsheets only on tractor-feed dot-matrix printers. Desktop
publishing is crude on dot-matrix printers but better on
lasers and on ink cartridges printer. Noise is a concern
if the printer is going to be in a reception area where
visitors are greeted or a place where the telephone is answered.
Internal reports are not designed to impress people. Rather,
they communicate information clearly and efficiently. Many
times, internal reports are printed on tractor-feed paper
that is never ripped apart. In fact, the fanfold paper helps
keep the pages in order. Usually in these circumstances,
speed is important, not text quality. Therefore, a fast
dot-matrix printer with tractor feed is the most cost-effective
solution.
Formal documents designed to impress people are usually
bound in a note-book or stapled together. Sometimes a 24-pin
dot matrix printer will produce the required quality. In these cases,
you can purchase tractor-feed paper that tears apart, or
feed single sheets by hand. For the best quality, however,
the only solution is a laser printer and/or ink cartridges
printers.
