Public expectations of an envelop feeder have never been
met. The goal of printing addresses directly on envelopes
as easily as printing mailing labels has never been achieved
at a reasonable cost. You can hand feed envelopes easily
one at a time. The S 100-envelope feeders hold 10 envelopes.
Functional envelope feeders cost $1,000 or more. Some printers
(inkjets cartridge printers or laser printers engines) do
not sup-port envelope feeders. If the humidity is high,
most lasers actually seal the envelopes while printing on
them.Practice manually feeding the envelope through the
printer first. Watch the path it takes.
Then switch to landscape printing mode and adjust the margins
until the addresses are in the right place while printing
on a piece of paper. Hold the paper and envelope up to a
light. The light shining through should indicate where the
addresses will appear on the envelope. When feeding the
envelope through, open the flap, and smooth out the natural
curl of the flap. Certain types of envelopes will not feed
well, particularly those made of parchment paper.
Sometimes, lasers will not print within a quarter of an
inch of the edge of the envelope. Try attaching Post-It
notes to the edge of the envelope. This fools the printer
into thinking that the envelope is larger. The Post-It notes
do not seem to get stuck in the laser printer. (Try this
at your own risk).
Envelopes made out of paper with texture are going to jam.
Choose smooth paper envelopes. Envelopes with diagonal seams
and standard gummed flaps work the best. Also, make certain
that the leading edge of the envelope has a sharp crease.
This prevents the envelopes from jamming as much.
