You must know the complete list of parts
required to assemble a fully functional printer. Unfortunately,
not all salesmen are qualified for this task. For example,
you need a PC, software, a cable, and paper. Often, the
printer will be cheap, but the package deal will not (package
deals include the inkjet cartridges and/or the toner cartridges
thats needed for the printing job). When pricing printers,
make sure to include everything that you will need. Keep
in mind that it is impossible for most stores to stock all
the pieces and even more difficult to make sure that you
walk out the door with them. The following is a list of
all the items that you need:
- printer
- ribbon
- print head
- paper
- cable
- power cord manuals
- shipping box toner cartridges font cartridges paper
trays
- PC interface plastic covers paper rack
- wire paper guide printer interface tractors
- tear bar
- printer software
- ink cartridges or toner cartridges
Ideally, the advertised price of a printer includes all
of the preceding items. Salesmen may hesitate about throwing
in a box of paper, but it never hurts to ask. There should
not be any expensive additions that the salesperson describes
as absolutely necessary to use the printer. All the interfaces,
tractors, tear bars, and printer software (mostly they are
provided in a CD - or device driver software) necessary
should he included in the price of the printer (apart from
the printer cartridges ; ink cartridges or laser toners).
A tear bar is simply a bar that you use to tear the paper.
All dot-matrix printers should come with a printer interface,
tractor, tear bar, and ribbon for the advertised price.
A laser and inkjet printer on the other hand comes in a
one full box with the printer, CD, inks and toners included
inside the printer and the cable to connet to the PC or
computer. Advertising a printer that does not come with
all these necessary items is like advertising a car without
tires.
Even more infuriating than paying more money than expected
is the tension caused by walking away without everything
that you paid for or everything necessary to use the printer.
In fact, some people prefer to buy from mail-order or buying
them online because the printer arrives
from the manufacturer untouched. Everything that
was there originally is still there. Often, paying full
price for a printer that has been tested is simply paying
for someone to lose a piece.
One way of of testing is by printing atest page on a laser
printer and check the number of pages printed to see whether
the laser has been used.
