Printer Reviewing Dot-Matrix Features
Dot-matrix printers come in all sorts of shapes, sizes,
and speeds. The print heads are 9, 18, or 24 pins. The 9-pin
print heads are the slower, bottom-ofthe-line printers and
are discounted to less than 5200. The 24-print heads enter
the market at about $400 and extend all the way up into
the laser printer price range. The 18-pin print heads are
all specialty printers, usually designed to go fast as fast
as 800 cps. This is twice as fast as a dot-matrix printer.
Dot-matrix printers can use up to 12/1000 inch, or one millimeter.
Twelve millimeters are equal to the thickness of approximately
three sheets of paper and two carbons.
